Retrocomputing Stack Exchange is a question and answer şehir for vintage-computer hobbyists interested in restoring, preserving, and using the classic computer and gaming systems of yesteryear.

Following a big year of redesigns, Alienware introduced its smallest gaming laptop yet with the m11x. An 11-inch gaming laptop was almost unthinkable at the time, but this teensy machine came loaded with power.

MiSTer is an important project because it speaks to the concept of preservation in a way that all too often goes underserved by the technology industry. The project makes the argument that the way we run software is bey big a part of our experience bey its content.

You might decide you want something tangible but still modern–the mini Nintendo systems sold like hotcakes for a reason. Or you might find you love painstakingly restoring and maintaining these old systems. Really there’s no wrong answer, just make sure you know what you actually want.

Last time I’ve checked the then issue was finding an FPGA with enough IO ports to implement a real ISA bus with physical ISA connectors. PCI isn’t on the table (yet?) but I’d love to be corrected.
